DVLA Renewing a Photocard Driving Licence
Posted on 5th July 2020
The following update was issued by the DVLA on 4th June 2020
Drivers obtaining photocard driving licence due to expire between 1st February and 31st August 2020 will be granted a 7 month extension from the date of expiry the DVLA has announced on 4th June 2020. This means drivers will not have to travel out to get a new photograph to renew their photocard licence.
If your photocard driving licence is due to expire between the above dates you do not need to take any action as the extension will be automatic. You will be sent a renewal reminder before your 7 month extension ends.
If you have already applied online to renew your photocard this will be processed as normal. If you have already sent a paper application to renew your photocard there will be delays in processing but the 7 month extension will apply in the meantime.
This temporary extension applies to the photocard expiry date. This is separate to entitlement to drive. If your entitlement to drive is due to expire, you will need to renew this entitlement in the normal way by making an application to continue driving.
This change will be introduced from 4 June 2020.
